Pulagam (Moong Dal Rice )
Hi friends today i am coming with a recipe based on rice called "pulagam".This is very easy and simple to make.This can be made as plain or spicy based on ur taste.Usually my mom make this during festival times when you cannot eat onions.U can eat plain pulagam with ghee and sugar mixing it or u can eat with adding seasoning. For this recipe u need:-
Ingredients:-
Rice -2 cups
Moong dal-1 cup
Ginger paste-2to 3 tbsp
Green chillis-4 to 5 nos
Red chillis-1 to 2 nos
Mustard seeds-2 tsp
Cumin seeds -1 tsp
Curry leaves-few
Hing-2 pinch
Turmeric powder-2 pinch
Jaggery -2 tsp
Bay laves-3 nos
Cardamom-3 nos
Cloves-3 nos
Pepper corns-1 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil or Ghee-4 tbsp
Water-3 cups (if u need u can add more)
Method:-
First dry roast the moong dal until it changes to light brown color.
Now take the rice into a bowl
.When it changes the color of the dal changes add rice to it.
Now wash the rice and dal and drain the water keep it aside.
Heat oil or ghee in a pan,add cardamom,cloves,bay leaves,peppercorns fry until the color is changed.Now add th rice and moong dal to it.
Fry for 4 to 5 minutes and put into rice cooker with 3 cups of water.Add salt,turmeric powder and jaggery mix well cook till rice is done.
Wait for 20 to 25 minutes till rice is cooked well.Now this plain pulgam is ready.If u like u can have with tomato curd chutney .
For Seasoning :
Heat oil or ghee in a pan ,add cumin seeds,mustard seeds when it pops up add red chillis,green chillis,ginger paste,hing curry leaves let them fry for few minutes.
Now add the rice and salt into it mix well.Sprinkle little water and cover the lid cook for 5 minutes.
Now open the lid mix well.Off the flame.
Serve hot with chutney or pachadi.
Note:
Sorry guys i forget to put whole pepper corns.

Looks delicious :) I make moong dal kichdi in simila manner. I did not find any black peppercorns here in pictures... did u mean black pepper powder?
Divya, what beautiful memories fro my mom used to make and we used to it. As you said, it was festive food. We always ate it plain with ghee and some chutneys or sambar etc. This is a nice spicy variety. Will surely try it.
